1.) a great little drill

As a furniture builder I really don't have the need for the big and powerful drills except for a few occasions. This little drill is just the thing for the medium to light duty drilling that I need to do.
there are just a few things that I want to mention that may help others. First the size is just right. It is light weight and short. Easy to get into small places. The lithium batteries hold a charge for a long time and give the drill plenty of power. I have not had the problem with the time it takes to recharge the batteries. Once charged, they last long time. Second the direction switch is out of the way yet close enough that you don't have to search for it. I had a milwaukee 12v screwdriver and the swithc was always in the way. Either it was mid setting which locked the trigger or it was set at the wrong direction. It was very frustrating. Third the grip gives you good control and does not get tiresome with extended use. And last, the LED light is a great help when working inside a cabinet where there is little light to see.
I have the screwdriver also and like that just as well. Don't let the 10.8 vs 12 volt label fool you. With either of these tools you get you will get just as much run time as the 12volts.
2.) Compact, lightweight

For a 2-pound flyweight drill, it's got very satisfactory power. The batteries drive plenty of screws per charge, and recharge faster than I can use them up. If you need arm-breaking power for big holesaws and stuff, this may not be your ideal pick, but if you need something compact that won't wear your arm out when working overhead or at arm's length, it's pretty good. The automatic LED "headlight" comes on when the trigger is pulled, and stays on briefly afterwards, which I found useful when trying to line stuff up under a stairway.
One nitpick: the battery-disengagement tabs are a little stiff, so it might be a nuisance if you have arthritic hands.

Makita has done it again. These 10.8 volt drills and drivers ,I own all of the 10.8 and they are the best for any job. I also own most of the 18 volt. But I cant seem to put the little guys down. They fit perfect in your hands and no fatigue for all day use.You wont be sorry they hold a long charge to.

Bought two of these for my grown children's tool kits. Both are thrilled at the light weight, power, and quick charging capacity. Worked with one of the units and it seems even better than the Makita cordless that I've owned for several years. A professional custom furniture maker told me years ago that spending the extra bucks for a Makita was money well spent. I think that's true.

This little Makita driver has lots of power and is very comfortable.
9.) Excellent little drill

I bought this drill for general use in household projects, replacing a larger Bosch drill that still worked perfectly but for which batteries were no longer available. This Makita is fun to use -- very light and compact, and the built-in work light is nice. Battery life is good, and the batteries recharge very quickly. I find that I do miss the power of the larger drill for some tasks, though. The carrying case does not have a compartment for drill bits, so I had to buy a little gizmo at Sears to hold my screwdriver bits. Overall I really like the drill.

I've the had Makita DF330DW driver/drill for about 6 weeks and have used it for several jobs requiring drilling and driving self-tapping screws into metal. This tool is comfortable in hand and light enough to use for hours. Someone mentioned it was difficult to control the slow speeds but I don't agree with that. I've found it easy to run the driver or drill as slowly as desired or constantly at whatever speed is needed. The light is not too useful for driving screws, doesn't really illuminate at that short distance. It works better for drilling or using an extended type of driver. It is a handy light just to see your work area or search for something. The batteries last a long time and recharge quickly. I'd recommend this tool and would buy again if needed.

I do love this little power house drill. I have owned several cheap wal-mart specials and they have always provided me with what I paid for. The reason I decided to purchase the Makita is simple. I recently had a new metal roof installed and the contractor was using this little drill. He installed every screw on the roof with two full charged batteries. I didn't count the screws but it was a bunch. What is so nice is the fast recharge of the lithium ion batterys, the kit comes with two. I could have bought another black & Decker or similiar, I am glad i chose this one.

First time home owner after renting for 15 years. Slowly buildig a tool inventory to tackle minor handyman projects inside and out. So far have mostly used outside. Built the wife a 4'x4'x8' compost bin, a couple trellises, some fence repair, and reconfigured my downspouts to install three rain barrells. The two speeds work great for drilling pilot holes on hi and then shifting to low to drive the screws. Haven't been able to drain both batteries before the first one has recharged. It is light as can be and very easy to handle. It did it, but didn't care for the 9/16" spade bit through 2"x2" wet pressure treated. I decided on the 11v compact because I already have a corded one if I need more power and I think it works better for over 95% of the stuff a homeowner ends up using one for. I like the one with the normal chuck too. I just got one of the speed lock bit holder kits and can quick change between driving and drilling and still have the option of using my regular drill index as well.
Clutch is a little non-consistent but that may just be me and the pressure I am driving with and the light doesn't seem to help me at all. don't really notice that it is on. Well worth the money.

This is a great drill. So much better than the 6095 Makita drill I had whose battery finally conked out. It's very light and seems to hold a charge for a long time. Its builtin light is handy in dark places and it has so much power that I can use 3/8ths inch sockets with an adapter. Of course I love the keyless chuck also. I know this review sounds like I got paid for it, but I didn't.

I build outdoor furniture and run a lot of screws. One of the original batteries from my Makita 12-volt driver, amazingly, lasted 14 years and was finally getting tired. Being so happy with my last Makita driver, I stayed with Makita. I was not disappointed. I bought this 10.8 for my shop but had an opportunity to use this driver building a deck for a friend. I ran over 5 pounds of 3" SS screws (pre-drilling first) and 5 pounds of 1 5/8" SS screws into pressure treated. The next battery was always charged and ready when I needed it. This little powerhouse never skipped a beat. This light weight, compact driver was very comfortable on my belt in its holster, always close at hand and ready, without being in the way or weighing me down. Only time will tell if the batteries will last as long as my old 12-volt. I highly recommend this product.

17.) great drill for nearly all projects

Great drill. I use it often and it is wonderful to have it ready to go no matter when because it keeps its charge. I have used it on as long as 3 1/2" deck screws into pressure treated 2bys and it does a good job but the clutch will slip toward the end. You can set it to have zero slip and it will drive the screws home without a pilot hole.
I used it to build foundations for my bee hives in a remote yard, and with the second battery, there were no issues with it going dead.
I consider this the best portable drill I have ever owned.

I had already purchased the combo set of 10.8 impact driver, drill set, but the drill in the set does not have a chuck. And I loved them so much when I saw this one with a chuck, I just had to have it. Just like the others, it is surprisingly powerful and fits into you hand extremely well. The down side to this one compared to the one without the chuck, is that it does not stand up on its own, because of the extra weight of the chuck, but the chuck is nice for things which do not have a hex drive. This is worth having.
19.) I'm almost completely satisfied

This is a great drill for home use and I am almost completely satisfied except for one small thing. Having a light to illuminate the spot where you are drilling is a wonderful help, but I wish it was adjustable because when driving screws it does not shine on the screw. Yes, you can use an extension bit, but it would be better if it was adjustable. This is a very minor problem and should not keep you from buying it. The primary reason I bought this drill was its light weight. As I get older, I find I am losing strength in my wrists and having difficulty working over my head. The light weight helps a lot.
20.) Very good with one complaint.
Reviewed by: Brad Silva
Rating:
It's light, powerful, nice case, charges fast. In short there is a lot to like.
The one complaint I have is in regard to the clutch. In it's highest setting, it's only applies about as much torque as the midrange of my beat-up old Ryobi. The clutch goes to 18, but the only settings I found useful were 18 and fully-locked. As a result, I use the fully-locked position on any long screws into wood and I invariably strip the head of the screw when it bottoms out.
Otherwise I really like it, but only 4 stars.
21.) As expected

This little guy packs pretty good power. Very compact and light.
I just wish the light is shinning from the top of the drill instead from the bottom. I can use a little more power, but it gets most of your job done unless you're a heavy duty guy. Regular drilling for window blinds, wood work is definitely no problem.
No problem with battery so far, charges pretty quick(about 1 hr), and not hot.
Would recommend for light DIY work around the home.

solid construction, good strong locking chuck, plenty of torque. only shortcomings is when using a short tip the light is blocked by the chuck so it is of little use in that situation. it also could have used a battery light to let you know how much juice is left like the similar milwaukee drills. but overall great battery life great drill. the case is cheap but thats typical of makita.
24.) Disappointed
Reviewed by: cheeks Southcoast, MA

I liked this drill it's light and very comfortable to use but was very disappointed with the battery life. I was replacing the floor boards and hand rails on my pressure treated deck and figured this would work but it wouldn't do more than about 20 to 30 screws before needing to be recharged. Also the batteries ran hot which is to be expected I guess so I had to wait for them to cool off before charging. I ended up pulling out my 8 year old Black & Decker 14 volt with a Ni-cad battery which easily outperformed the Makita. I decided to return the Makita and go with the Bosch 18 volt.

I have had this drill for over a year. In that time, I've used in extensively in woodworking. I love the drill. The batteries though, leave much to be desired. I've gone through three sets of LI batteries (under warranty) and now am down to one working battery. The charging system, at least the one I bought when these things first came out, is flawed. Within months of purchase, the LI batteries will no longer take a charge. My repair guy said that Makita still hasn't mastered the LI technology. Great! It's more cost efficient to spend the money I would spend replacing the LI batteries and charger on a new, non Lithium, Makita drill. Which is exactly what I've done. My other Makitas have run like champs for years. Live and learn... I guess.
CORRECTION: MY REVIEW, ABOVE, APPLIES TO THE 18VOLT COMPACT LI DRILL OF MAKITA, NOT THIS ONE. SORRY.
