I've had this drill for about a year, and have been very happy with it. The torque settings are pretty much standard, bit with images instead of numbers. It is powerful enough for everything I've thrown at it, seems well made and sturdy, and battery life is not bad at all. It has low speed low torque through low speed high/fixed torque and high speed for drilling. It fits comfortably in the hand. The drill bit holder on the side is pretty hard to get the bit out of, and I don't really use it as a result. Great tool, would buy again.

After using this for about seven years, my old version of this drill died only becuase I drilled through my wrought iron fence which meant constant use for several minutes at a time while I put about 50 lbs of weight on it in 100 degree F heat in the sun!! What I'm saying is this drill was not made for the conditions I put it in. I sill worked for a year, though it would smell burnt becuase I had cooked the insulation.

Don't let the other reviewers who claim the battery will die in a few years fool you. As with any NiCad battery, the key to long life is simple: fully charge, then disconnect from charger. Use the drill till the battery is dead or almost dead before recharge (don't use it shortly, then put it back on charger). If you do so, it will last almost indefinitely. My battery was good as new after 7 years.

I'm going to buy a new one now and will now use my corded drill for super heavy duty work. Use it for what it's made for - light to medium duty.

I got this drill from Lowe's for $35.00. It is about the same price at other places. Why is the advertisement here saying it is in the $150 range normally and that they are saving you $113? Also, you have to add in the (sometimes really steep) price of shipping! Something smells here!

it's exactly what i was looking for and there are a couple of things other consumers need to know ... 1. the plug- in charger is small, so keep an eye out for it.....it plugs into the back of the handle...2. this drill has NO charger indicator anywhere on it, so when you plug it in, be mindful of how long you've had it on the charger and DO NOT keep it plugged in constantly or you'll kill the battery fast. other than that, it's very stable, very well constructed and it CAN handle some heavy work!! try 1/2 inch steel with a titanium drill bit...chewed thru it like a fat man at an all you can eat buffet!! i'm very happy with this product and for what it lacks in lights, it makes up for in raw power. all the of "scrunity reviews" that a lot of people have submitted thus far for what it can and can't do?...listen, i've been a tradesman for going on 20 years and have toolboxes taller than anyone reading this and i can assure you, if this product was worthless, i would most definitely give it the heave. if you're on a budget or are looking for a good replacement for your old beat up 12-volt, this is a great start and it WILL get the job done, but be mindful, EVERY portable tool has it's limitations..as does DeWalt, Makita, Craftsman, Snap-On, Mac or any other toolmaker's products. use the right tool for the right job and you'll be amazed at just how long it will last. overall, great product in an economical package! now go buy some stuff!!

I bought this and have needed It 4 times already In 4 weeks just putting different things up and the smart technology really works. Sweet.
And what a great price! Unless I happened to catch a sale or deal of the day! The only thing at all. It does not have a carrying case! They really should have for this drill. It still on the original charge I gave It over 4 weeks ago, so the charge Is sure lasting. It fits well In your hand and Into tight side spaces(For the screw)as well. The 111 piece set I got at local True value on sale does have a case and have used it twice too now. So for anyone that wants a GREAT drill. I mean It's a Black & Decker! I can't reccomend enough compared to the 2 I've had to borrow before my purchase. This Is so Inexpensive. Like I said sweet deal. It does come with your standard flat head and philips on the other side that does come attached to It. So they will work for a lot. The smart technology Is great.

JUST TO CLARIFY, it does come with a charger; I don't know if "connie" threw it away with the brown cardboard around it, but it's there.
It pugs in directly to the back of the handle, and the manual says 9 hours of initial charging, then 3-6 for full charges after that.

Now that we have that out of the way...

This isn't difficult to figure out, especially if you need a drill.
I was planning to just shop around locally for a used one, looked up "electric drills" on Amazon.com to see what the general price is like.. and there it is!! $33.99.
A 78% sale? EVEN BETTER. I do not know much about electric drills, but if I'm saving more than half, heck I would buy it just for the sake of paying only 1/4 the price!

I needed a drill to work with for installing hood pins on my new cf hood, and figured, I might as well invest in an electric drill (because they do come in handy, trust me), and might as well finish that project I started on my guitar... eh.. about 18 months ago.

It's easy, if you need an electric drill, buy this right now. APPARENTLY it's around $155. You pay around $34 instead.

I've been looking for some time for a good affordable cordless drill. What I'd been seeing for what I paid for this item was no-name products which I was not comfortable purchasing. This drill is everything I need and should be more than adequate for the everyday homeowner. I've been very happy with its performance. I feel it was a super buy from a name I know and trust.

This is a great drill for around the house. The battery life is fairly good (and can be replaced with a fully charged one) I'm not sure how useful the smart select dial is - but I assume it is helpful. So far it's done everything I've wanted it to do!

I needed a drill for one project and didn't want to spend a ton of $$$. This worked really well and I'm SURE it will come in handy again. Another reviewer mentioned that the bit that is included is really hard to get on and off. I agree...but I got a full set anyway and it's nice to have it attached for "emergencies"

This is a really good drill for the price.

This is a great "lite" power tool to have around the house. For handling screws, drilling drywall, etc, it's excellent. The battery life is really good and the multitude of torque settings are useful. However, if you're wanting to do some serious home improvement projects, you should look elsewhere. I've found it to be a bit anemic when dealing with anything other than soft wood or drywall. If you need to drill metal, concrete, or tile this definitely will not get the job done adequately. I'm happy with it for what it is, which is a great tool for small jobs at a great price.

This is a perfect drill for small projects - setting up furniture, hanging pictures, blind installation. It is not built for heavy usage but for the price does a great job. The smart select pictures are useful and make torque selection easy. This unit is usually on sale at most local home stores for $35, pick up the B&D screw driver and drill bit set for $10 at the big blue store and it will serve you well for most tasks around the house.

This drill has worked just fine for me, I used it when i mounted my LCD to the wall. It worked like a charm. It's nice that it has a few different drill modes too so it will adjust the speed/torque accordingly. Just make sure you give the battery a good charge so you get peak performance out of this drill.

For an inexpensive drill this this Black & Decker BD12PSK 12 Volt Smart Select Dill is filling the need that I have, which is putting up bat and board siding on a barn. I am using 2 and 3 inch self tapping deck screws, which the drill handles with no problem. It was a good buy. CM

If you are looking for a drill easy to use, this is it. I love it. It is easy to handle. with the smart setting, it is easy to use without thinking about it. The only problem is the lack of accessories (4 out of 5 stars). I have to buy it on the side. In my next Ikea trip, the drill will be useful to assemble the furniture.

I can barely get this drill to put a screw through a piece of wood. I bought extra drill bits, hoping that if I were able to pre-drill holes, it would work better. I also can't pre drill holes through wood with this drill. If you were only going to use it as a screw driver, you might get some use out of it - though it is quite cumbersome or that job.

This review is based on the B&D 12v Firestorm drill we owned, (bought from wallmart) for a few years. The batteries do not last for very long (about three years) and replacement batteries are very hard to find, because when a new 12v firestorm drill is designed, a new battery shape goes with it and old-model batteries do not fit and are not kept in stock (walmart, lowes, or Home Depot). The drill itself seems to do the job okay. But it is useless without its battery. Had to throw it in the trash. Whether it is the batteries or the charger, it is a get-what-you-pay-for product. Better to spend a little more and get a better product that lasts longer. My brother recommends DeWalt.

I bought this drill because it was cheap and I guess there is a reason. It is very limited.I have a $300 cordless drill that can do anything and that's why it's $300.
If all you do is put small screws in Ikea furniture then you might be happy with this Chinese junk.
